Island Resiliency

Parametric Reef Insurance

We placed the first nature-based insurance policy in the Pacific to protect the Lau Group’s coral reefs and communities from cyclone impacts. Rapid payouts fund reef restoration, provide critical community aid, and build long-term resiliency to climate change and anthropogenic threats.

Through our Kaibu Foundation and partners, we developed a nature-based parametric insurance policy, involving expert and local collaboration, community consultations, climate education, and training for reef restoration, water safety, first aid, cyclone preparedness, and disaster response. Our reef insurance policy has enabled rapid aid to 270 community members. Community-led field team carried out damage assessments and reef rehabilitation. This first payout in the Pacific shows a replicable model for island resilience.

Transformative Tourism

We are developing a transformative tourism model for the South Pacific, co-creating knowledge with university and Indigenous partners to prioritize holistic community outcomes and support long-term tourism goals sustainably.

Guided by our commitment to sustainability, we joined Pacific community exchanges, built capacity, and partnered with universities. We engaged with local communities to understand their priorities, balancing economic, social, and environmental objectives to shape enduring community-led tourism goals.

The resulting Better Pacific Tourism Practice Guide highlights transformative tourism models that support sustainable futures for people and nature.
